Clinker façade slips. When, why and how is it worth applying them?
Clinker façade slips faithfully imitate clinker bricks – most importantly, it’s not only the appearance what they have in common. They also posses the much valued decorative qualities and functional benefits of clinker brick. Clinker façade slips are also intended for use on exterior walls of facilities or fencing, especially renovated ones. However, sometimes they are also used in newly constructed buildings as well. Clinker façade slips. When is it worth using them?
Clinker façade slips were created to facilitate the use of clinker products where their application was impossible or difficult. A thermomodernisation of decades-old house can be an example. In this case, the wall will be several centimeters thicker due to added insulation layer. If you also wanted to build, as in the case of a modern three-layer wall, a clinker partition wall here, it would mean over 20 additional centimeters in total, so that windows (if not relocated) would be placed in a 40-centimeter alcove. The cladding of 1 cm thick slips reduces the total thickness of the new elements, while decorating and protecting the façade and, importantly, looks the same as brick.
According to specialists, the general rule is to use brick in new buildings and clinker façade slips in renovated ones. It’s generally a simpler solution in terms of logistics and implementation, however, equally effective and impressive. Sometimes slips are also used in new investments, for example when the selected building technology does not allow the use of bricks or when it is not possible due to legal reasons, for example if it would narrow the sidewalk or reduce the legally required distances to the plot boundary or buildings in the neighborhood.
Clinker façade slips. Why can be recommended?
The popularity of clinker façade slips is driven by several factors. The low purchase price is one of them, however, it’s definitely not the most important factor considering the perspective of a building lasting for decades. Their durability is more important, especially in the context of exterior walls of the house, which are constantly exposed to changing environmental conditions. Same as brick, clinker façade slips are made from a mixture of clay burnt at a temperature of approximately 1000°C. This makes them extremely resistant to temperature fluctuations (from frost to heat ), guarantees the low absorbability at the level of a few percent and much more.
The low absorbability level is the secret of clinker’s resistance to frost, biological corrosion (fungi, lichen, algae) and chemical corrosion (industrial fumes, acid rain), as well as soil penetration. In addition, clinker façade slips have all the visual qualities of brick. When corner slips are applied, it’s almost impossible to distinguish them from brick.The value of the effect cannot be overestimated, since the appearance of the house is its signature. And they retain it for decades or even hundreds of years without requiring maintenance.

Since clinker façade slips are offered in both standard (rectangular) and corner versions, it’s possible to create a brick layout that faithfully resembles an authentic brickwork. The impression remains the same, even if you take a closer look. Together with brick, they have a completely universal purpose. In line with their name, they can be used to protect and decorate façades, but also chimneys, fencing, decorative walls and other landscape architecture elements, garages, outbuildings. Besides, clinker façade slips are perfect for interiors, for example they are a good fit for a wall decorated in old style. Due to their resistance to water, moisture, high temperatures and many types of soiling, they are perfect not only for the living room or bedroom, but also for the kitchen or bathroom.
